Hi, I’m Col. I’m a student at the University of Iceland, and I like folktales. 

There’s a plethora of information about Norse mythology online. There’s less about the wild and weird word of post-medieval Icelandic folktales. While there are versions of Icelandic folklore collections floating around in English, they might not be accessible online, or they’re missing so much context that they might be a bit incomprehensible to an outside reader. I decided to try to remedy that gap.

This is mostly a casual project to improve my Icelandic, but I hope you’ll enjoy tagging along.

Sæbúi, this blog’s title, means “sea-dweller” in Icelandic. Sæbúar, or sea-dwellers, are a pretty expansive category of Icelandic monsters.
